Two years ago today, we said good-bye to the Bay Area, the place we had called home for a long time. We set out on our World Tour, with a guitar, harmonica, microphone, laptop and two or three suitcases.
In reality, this was the third leg of our tour. We had been to Asia (Hong Kong) and Europe (Portugal, Spain) on two previous trips.
But this would be our longest stint on the road. We visited Mauritius, where Sherry’s family lives, and South Africa. And we returned to the States to stake our claim in Southern California.
Here are a few photographic highlights from our time in South Africa.
Notice the sign in the distance: Beware of baboons. We did encounter a mother and child on the right, but they went their separate way.
Other than Antarctica, South Africa is the only place to see penguins in their native habitat.

The Stellenbosch region north of Capetown is South Africa’s equivalent to the Napa Valley. The terrain is strikingly similar to Northern California.
We finally settled down again this past August, buying a home during the pandemic.
We’d love to get on the road again. But it doesn’t look like that will happen anytime soon. In the meantime, we are relishing our new environs, just a stone’s throw from the ocean, with great hiking trails and open spaces. And the weather can’t be beat.
